Beardies First

Category - Food

As a reptile, the bearded dragon has specific dietary needs. In the wild, these lizards are omnivores, eating both plants and animals. The most common food for captive bearded dragons is insects.

Bearded dragons can be fed a diet of live insects, such as crickets and mealworms. These should be dusted with a calcium powder to ensure the lizard gets enough of this essential nutrient. Vegetables can also be given to bearded dragons, and should make up about 20% of their diet.
